CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects Connor Green (New Port Richey, Fla.), Tyson Empey (Swift Current, Sask. Canada) and Jimmy Poreda (Tonawanda, N.Y.) as this weeks Rookie, Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively.
Green stopped all 20 shots he faced in his first collegiate start to shut out Fredonia, 1-0, on Saturday night. It was Potsdam's first win of the season.
Empey helped lead the Knights to a pair of conference victories as Geneseo defeated Cortland, 7-1, on Friday and beat Oswego, 9-1, on Saturday. Against the Red Dragons, Empey scored a goal and added an assist. On Saturday against the Lakers, the senior forward scored his first-career hat trick, including a pair of power play goals, and dished off an assist to pace the Geneseo offense.
Junior goaltender Jimmy Poreda played to a 1-0-1 record with 63 saves, a 0.48 goals against average, a .984 save percentage and one shutout on the week. He began the week with 24 saves, a 0.92 goals against average and a .960 save percentage in Plattsburgh State's 1-1 overtime tie with Fredonia on Friday, Nov. 15. Poreda then backed that performance up with a 39-save shutout in Plattsburgh State's 2-0 win over Buffalo State on Saturday, Nov. 16. The 39 saves are a season high for Poreda, who lowered his goals against average to 1.65 for the season and improved his save percentage to .937.
