CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Brockport's Ryan Romeo (Fairport, N.Y.) and Matt Schneider (Manlius, N.Y.) and Buffalo State's Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia) as this week's PrestoSports Men's Ice Hockey Player, Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Romeo registered one goal and added four assists as Brockport came away with two road victories this past weekend. He netted the game tying goal with 2:56 left in regulation to help force overtime as Brockport went on to defeat nationally-ranked No. 10 Stevenson 4-3 on Saturday. He finished the night with a team-best three points on one goal and two assists. He also assisted the game-winning goal as the Golden Eagles topped host Lebanon Valley 4-3 on Friday night. He finished Saturday with two assists. Romeo leads the team with 19 points on six goals and 13 assists this season.
Schneider picked up two one goal victories for the Golden Eagles over the weekend. He posted 19 saves and held Lebanon Valley to an 0-for-7 effort on the power-play in a 4-3 victory on the road Friday night. He came back on Saturday night and stopped 21 shots on the road at nationally-ranked No. 10 Stevenson to help the Golden Eagles earn a 4-3 overtime victory. He held the Mustangs to an 0-for-3 effort on the power-play on Saturday. Brockport has now one four consecutive one goal games to start the new year, including two overtime victories.
Kozyrev tallied five points in a 1-1-1 week for the Bengals with at least a point in each game. He netted two goals and had an assist in a 6-2 win at Chatham on Tuesday and then had a goal and an assist in a pair of games against SUNY Canton on the weekend. Kozyrev is pacing Buffalo State with 15 points (six goals, nine assists) in 13 games, which also leads all rookies in the SUNYAC and ranks sixth among Division III freshmen.
