CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the recipients for its weekly awards in Men's Indoor Track and field. Geneseo senior Gillan Faulkner (Farmingville, N.Y.) is the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Plattsburgh sophomore John O'Connor (Canajoharie, N.Y.) has been recognized as the Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Faulkner posted the 13th-fastest 800 time (1:53.07) in Division III that also ranks first in the Atlantic Region during the Valentine Invitational, Saturday, at Boston University. Running in a field that included Division I, II, III and open competitors, he also added a leg to Knights' second-place distance medley relay (10:06.86) on Friday that ran the fastest time in the the nation this winter before running on Geneseo's 4x400 relay on Saturday that posted the second-fastest performance (3:20.86) in the SUNYAC this year.
John O'Connor placed first in both weight throw and shot put at the North Country All-Comers Invitational hosted by the University of Vermont on Sunday. O'Connor threw a personal best 48' 8.75" in weight throw and threw 42' 4.75" in shot put, both State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) qualifying marks.
