CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the top Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. The winners were selected from top nominations made by conference members. This week's Offensive Player of the week is Brigid Regin from Oswego and on the other side of the field as Defensive Player of the Week is Angela Ponto from Oswego.
Regin dominated in Oswego's two conference victories on the road this week. First, in Oswego's 14-5 victory at New Paltz, Regin single-handedly outscored the Hawks, putting up seven goals to make up half of the Lakers' total. In Oswego's commanding 19-2 win at Fredonia, the junior notched five more points on four goals and an assist. In addition to her 12 points on the week, Regin collected three ground balls and four draw controls as well to further contribute to the Laker wins.
Ponto stifled the offenses of Oswego's two conference foes this week to earn wins in both contests. First, in Oswego's 14-5 victory at New Paltz, Ponto allowed just four goals in 55:10 while making eight saves. The senior followed up with an even more impressive performance at Fredonia on Sunday, only allowing two goals in a commanding 19-2 win over the Blue Devils. With Ponto's eight saves, she finished the day with a 77.8 save percentage. Overall, Ponto's goals-against average for the week was a minuscule 3.36.
