2016 SUNYAC Baseball Awards Announced
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the 2016 Baseball All-Conference teams, as well as Player, Pitcher, Rookie, and Coach of the Year awards. Eric Hamilton of Oswego was named the Bob Wallace Player of the Year, Seth Lamando of Cortland, won the Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year award, Justin Stybel of New Paltz was awarded the Clark V. Whited Rookie of the Year, and the Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year went to Cortland's Joe Brown.
Eric Hamilton guided the Oswego Lakers offence this season helping them become nationally recognized as high as fourth in the nation at one point this year, the highest the Lakers have ever been ranked in the history of their program. This season, Hamilton led the SUNYAC in almost every single offensive statistic. While starting all 41 games, Hamilton batted .412 with 53 RBI's, 44 runs scored, 12 doubles and an on base percentage of .461. While these numbers are impressive, the most impressive stat is his single season school record of 13 homeruns, which places him tied for the seventh most in all of Division III.
Seth Lamando is a huge part of the nationally first-ranked Red Dragons this year. So far Lamando has posted an 8-0 record with a 0.89 earned run average. In 70.2 innings pitched this season, Lamando bears the team leading 67 strikeouts while only giving up five walks and keeping opponents' batting average just under .200. His low ERA earns him the fifth best in the nation along with being ranked 14th in division III with his eight victories. Lamando looks to continue his success this season as the Red Dragons look to repeat as the Division III National Champions.
Justin Stybel had a great freshman season on the mound for the Hawks. Stybel posted a 3-1 record in 43.2 innings pitched this year with an earned run average of 1.24. Stybel held the opponents' batting average to an impressive .157.
Last year's Division III National Coach of the Year Joe Brown has continued his dominance in the SUNYAC, leading nationally top ranked Cortland to their sixth consecutive and 34th overall conference title. The defending National Champions have not lost a step from last year as they have posted a 37-5 overall record this season. In Coach Brown's past two seasons, in which he has won this honor, the Red Dragons have posted a combined 82-9 record, giving them a breathtaking .901 win percentage.
