Oswego, Geneseo Begin NCAA III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament March 12 with Home Games.
INDIANAPOLIS – When Oswego edged Geneseo 7-6 to capture the 2014 SUNYAC men's ice hockey title and earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA III National Championship Tournament, the hope around the conference and from the Knights faithful was that Geneseo would join the Lakers in the post-season.
On Sunday evening, March 9, the two clubs that put on one of the most exciting championship games in SUNYAC history learned that they would both be hosting first-round games on Wednesday, March 12, and that a potential rematch would not occur unless both squads made it to the National Championship game in Lewiston, Me., on March 22 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
The semifinals are March 21 in Lewistown.
Oswego (20-6-2) will host Bowdoin (17-8-2), the NESCAC Champion, in the opening round with the winner traveling to Babson on March 15 for the national quarterfinals. Semifinal round opponents could be either St. Thomas of Minnesota (21-4-2) or Wisconsin-Stevens Point (20-5-2).
Geneseo (21-6-0) will host Nichols (18-6-3) on Wednesday with the winner taking on the survivor of Norwich (19-6-3) and Salem State (16-9-2) in the quarterfinals on March 15. If the Knights make it through to the semifinals, they would face St. Norbet (25-3-1) or Adrian (22-2-4) on March 21.
