Bernhardt and Makowiec Named SUNYAC Men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has announced Cortland's Hunter Bernhardt at the Men's Swimmer of the Week and Trent Makowiec from Geneseo as the Men's Diver of the Week.
Bernhardt became just the fourth Cortland swimmer to break the 10-minute mark in the 1,000-yard freestyle with his winning time of 9:58.46 in a home tri-meet Friday versus New Paltz and Buffalo State. He also won the 400-yard IM (4:23.12). The following day in a dual win over Division II Le Moyne, Bernhardt won both the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.23) and 500-yard freestyle (4:47.45). To start the week on Wednesday, he won the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.02) in a dual win at Oswego.
Makowiec had a stellar weekend off the diving board for the Knights to earn his sixth weekly award of the season. Against Brockport, he won both the one and three meter dive while setting a new program record for six three meter dives. He scored 339.15 in the one meter dive and then 396.7 in the three meter dive. In a quad meet at RIT, he placed first in both dive events again, scoring 342.7 in the three meter dive and 375.7 in the one meter dive.
