One team, two individuals set to represent SUNYAC in 2017 NCAA DIII Men's Cross Country Championship
CORTLAND, NY — The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced the team and individual qualifiers for the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. The championships this year are hosted by Principia College at the North Farm Facility in Elsah, Illinois starting with the men's race at noon, followed by the women's race at 1:15 pm.
Team Qualifier(s):
Geneseo - The Knights were the only State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's team to qualify for this year's championship as they received an automatic bid by winning their third straight Atlantic Region championship. Geneseo is also coming off their fourth consecutive SUNYAC title, seventeenth in program history, they were the runner-up for the 2016 national championship and are currently ranked third in the nation in the USTFCCCA poll.
Individual Qualifier(s):
Colin Greenseich (Oswego) – The Senior from Cicero, N.Y. is the first male cross country runner from Oswego to qualify for the championships in fifteen years. At the Atlantic Regional, Greenseich finished fifteenth out of a field of almost three hundred while breaking a program record for the fastest 8K in Lakers history, with a finishing time of 25:06.3
Devin Akerley (Oneonta) – After competing in last years championship as part of Oneonta's team qualification, the junior will get set to compete for the Red Dragons as an individual in the 2017 championships. The Corinth, N.Y. native became only the tenth individual in program history to qualify to run at the championships and the first since 1997. Akerley's thirteenth-place 8K finish with the time of 25:05 was enough to book his ticket to Elsah as well as earning himself his first career All-Region honor.
