Mayer Tabbed SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Buffalo State's Josh Mayer is the 2025 SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year as nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.
Mayer was a top runner for the Bengals. He earned third team All-SUNYAC following a 15th place finish at the 2025 conference championship meet. Mayer helped his team finish fourth overall.
Mayer is a forensic chemistry major holding a 3.56 cumulative GPA as a sophomore. He earned the SUNYAC Elite 20 award at the SUNYAC meet, the first in Buffalo State's program history. Mayer was also named to the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll list.
In order to be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award student-athletes must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore. The SUNYAC Scholar Athlete Award began in 2016-17.
