Four Cortland Softball Players Earn All-Region Honors

Four members of the SUNY Cortland softball team have been selected to the 2024 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Region Three all-region team. Senior second baseman Tori Reich (Cornwall) and sophomore shortstop Shannon Scotto (Putnam Valley/Lakeland) were named to the all-region first team. Junior pitcher/first baseman McKenna Barry (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was a second-team honoree and graduate student outfielder Gina Meyers (Liverpool) was named to the third team.
Reich started all 38 games and batted .392 with six doubles, a triple, 28 RBI, 35 runs, 17 walks and five steals. She registered a .971 fielding percentage at second base with just four errors in 137 chances. She went 4-for-4 in a regular-season win over Geneseo and recorded two or more hits in 13 other games.
Scotto started 33 games and hit .421 with eight doubles, 31 RBI and 13 runs scored. She posted a .962 fielding percentage at shortstop with just four errors in 104 chances. Scotto went 4-for-4 in wins over Wooster and Geneseo, had three hits in five other games, and posted two hits on eight other occasions.
Barry batted .307 with eight doubles, six homers, 31 RBI, 20 runs and 26 walks in 37 starts. She also finished 17-3 in the circle with a save and a 3.22 ERA. She threw a two-hitter versus Oneonta and a four-hit shutout against New Paltz at the SUNYAC tournament and allowed two hits in six innings in a win over Montclair State. She homered twice and drove in five runs in a win over Bowdoin.
Meyers batted .425 with three doubles, seven triples, 20 RBI, 36 runs and 10 steals in 37 games. She hit safely in her first 33 games of the season; only four players in NCAA Division III history, prior to this season, hit safely in that many consecutive games. Meyers went 3-for-4 in five different games and had two hits in 11 other contests.
Cortland finished the season with a 29-9 record and reached the 20-win plateau for the 27th straight full season. The Red Dragons placed second during the SUNYAC regular season with a 15-3 mark and placed second in the SUNYAC tournament with a 4-2 record, including a win over eventual champion New Paltz.
