PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Plattsburgh defeated Cortland, 4-1, to win the 2026 SUNYAC women's ice hockey championship title, Saturday at Plattsburgh's Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. This is the Cardinals second-straight and second overall championship win since the SUNYAC started sponsoring women's ice hockey three years ago. With the win Plattsburgh earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III women's ice hockey tournament.
Plattsburgh's forward, Sydnee Francis was named the SUNYAC Tournament MVP after recording two goals and three assists in the final and semifinal games.
Elite 20
The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. There was a tie with two athletes holding a 4.00 overall GPA. Cortland teammates Katie Diem and Gillian Dinsmore were named the 2026 SUNYAC Elite 20 Women's Ice Hockey awardees. Diem is a senior Biology major while Dinsmore is a sophomore majoring in exercise science.
