Mitchell, DuLuca and Bell Earn SUNYAC Women's Tennis Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC picks Plattsburgh's Jacklin Mitchell as its Women's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week while Oswego's Emily DuLuca and Leah Bell repeat as the Doubles Team of the Week.
Working in the No. 3 position for the Cards, Mitchell began her season off with two wins, earning a conference win on Monday, and then another win against Russell Sage on Friday. In Monday's win against Oneonta's Annika Cripe, Mitchell won 7-6 (7-0), 6-4 to help her team to the 6-1 SUNYAC win. On Friday, Mitchell helped start the Cardinal comeback to a 4-3 win, starting a string of three straight singles wins defeating Emma Nuzzi 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
The duo of DeLuca and Bell had continued success this week when Farmingdale State and St John Fisher visited the Lakers. Against Farmingdale, the duo took down their opponent by a score of 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. On Saturday, against St John Fisher, the score was identical, 6-2. The pair of DeLuca and Bell have helped the Lakers start their season with a 5-0 record.
