SUNYAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year Named
Steve Patrick and Mike Woods have been recognized as the 2013 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year respectively. The Coach of the Year Award is voted on by the conference coaches.
Coach Patrick earns his second-ever Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year award after his team captured the 2013 SUNYAC Championship for the first time since 2008.
This is Patrick's sixth season as Cortland's cross country head coach after serving as an assistant coach in the fall of 2007. Patrick also serves as Cortland's men's and women's track and field head coach - a position he attained in the summer of 2007. During that time Patrick led his team to an NCAA Division III title in 2008, a fifth place finish in 2009 and a top 25 finish in 2011 and 2012.
Patrick was also named the 2010 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year after leading the Red Dragons to a conference title.
This is the third straight year and 11th time overall that Geneseo's Coach Woods has earned the Women's Coach of the Year honor.
As one of the nation's most decorated distance coaches, Woods led the Knights to their third straight SUNYAC crown and 13th overall championship for the program in 14 years (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013).
Since taking over the program at his alma mater 22 years ago, he has guided 24 SUNYAC Championship teams (13 women, 11 men), while 14 of his Knights (nine women, five men) have run to 19 SUNYAC Individual Championships.
Woods has also been named the SUNYAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year nine times.
