ECAC recognizes six SUNYAC athletes and one coach with baseball awards
Ziemendorf was sensational this season in leading his squad to their first-ever NCAA National Championship. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the NCAA Division III World Series after batting .524 (11-for-21) over five games with two doubles, three runs scored and eight runs batted in. He went 4-for-5 with two RBI in Game one of the championship series against University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and knocked three hits with an RBI during an opening-day win over Webster University. Overall, Ziemendorf batted .369 in 47 games this season with a team-high 59 hits, 16 doubles, three triples and two home runs. He also drove in 46 runs, recorded a .485 on-base percentage and slugged .544. Ziemendorf was named ECAC Division III Upstate Player of the Week on April 21 after going 12-for-19 with two home runs, four doubles and 14 RBI in a 6-0 week for SUNY Cortland.
Brown, the ABCA New York Region Coach of the Year, guided SUNY Cortland to its best season in program history in 2015 as the Red Dragons captured the NCAA Division III Baseball National Championship. On the way to their first-ever national title, Brown and his squad did not drop a single game in either the NCAA Regionals or the World Series and defeated Wisconsin-La Crosse twice in a row to hoist the trophy. During the 9-0 run, the Red Dragons had just one one-run game and defeated teams by an average of 5.5 runs per contest. SUNY Cortland finished the year at 45-4 overall and had separate winning streaks of 11, 17 and nine games along the way. In his 16 years at the helm of Cortland baseball, Brown has been named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year five times and has led the Red Dragons to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances and nine College World Series berths.
