Kreider and Misla Take Home SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - New Paltz's Tommy Kreider has been named SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Week, while Cortland's Luis Misla takes home his third Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
The awards were announced on Monday, March 31, for the contests played March 24-30.
Kreider led the Hawks to a 2-1 week after New Paltz split a pair of conference games with Cortland and defeated St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 14-4 on March 26. Against St. Joe's, Krieder set the career stolen-base record at New Paltz after he swiped three in the contest. He finished the game going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI and two walks.
On Friday, March 28, Kreider had one of the Hawks' four base hits in a 6-0 conference loss at Cortland. On March 29 in Game 1 of a doubleheader, Kreider was catalyst in a 3-1 victory by going 2-for-3 with a double. He accounted for the go-ahead run, finishing with two of the team's three runs scored. The second game of the twinbill was rained out.
For the week, Kreider hit .500 with a .571 on-base percentage and a .600 slugging rate.
Misla tossed a four-hit shutout with one walk and a career-high 16 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over visiting New Paltz on Friday, March 28. He's the fifth player in program history to strike out at least 16 batters in a game and finished one strikeout short of tying single-game record of 17.
