Lavarnway and George honored with Women's T&F Weekly Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) names Emily Lavarnway from Geneseo and Olivia George from Brockport the Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Lavarnway posted yet another eye-popping mark on Saturday at St. John Fisher to win her second weekly conference honor of the season. Lavarnway ran the 400 in 56.46, setting a Geneseo program record and a St. John Fisher facility record. The mark holds as the third-fastest time in NCAA Division III so far this season. Geneseo runners have turned in three of the top seven 400 times in NCAA Division III so far this season. Lavarnway also finished second in the 100, trailing teammate Jenna Strickland by just seven hundredths of a second (12.47).
George placed first in the hammer throw at St. John Fisher's Cardinal Classic with a personal-best toss of 50.82m on Saturday. Her first career 50+ meter throw has pushed her into the top 5 all-time in Brockport's program-history. She now ranks 20th on the national outdoor qualifying list in the hammer throw. She also placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 36.26m and she added an 11th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 10.19m.
