New Paltz Field Hockey to Host Simmons in NCAA Tournament First Round Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS – The State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team, which earned the automatic bid from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC), will host Simmons College, the automatic qualifier out of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), at the North Turf Field in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 11, as announced late Sunday night by the NCAA.
Wednesday's first-round contest marks the first-ever NCAA Tournament game to take place on New Paltz's campus in any sport.
New Paltz (15-5) is 2-3 all-time at the NCAA Tournament and is making its fourth appearance in the national playoff. The Hawks, who have won each of their past two first-round games, made the NCAA Tournament by beating SUNY Geneseo, 2-1, in the SUNYAC Tournament semifinals before topping SUNY Cortland, 4-1, in the SUNYAC championship game.
Simmons (14-4) is 0-1 all-time at the NCAA Tournament, qualifying for the first time in program history last season. The Sharks' road to the NCAA Tournament included a 3-0 win over Johnson & Wales University in the semifinal round of the GNAC Tournament and a 1-0 triumph over St. Joseph's (Maine) College in the GNAC Tournament championship game. Simmons has posted four consecutive shutouts dating back to Oct. 23.
The winner of the New Paltz-Simmons first-round game will play Messiah College (15-5) in the second round on Saturday, Nov. 14, at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J.
