Paul Rodrigues Named AHCA DIII Ice Hockey Player of the Year
Oswego State's Paul Rodrigues (Etobicoke, Ontario) has been recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) as the 2013 recipient of the Sid Watson Memorial Award, which is symbolic of the nation's best Division III men's ice hockey player. In addition, Rodrigues was also selected to the AHCA 2012-2013 Men's CCM Hockey Division III All-American First Team. Matthieu Cadieux (Oshawa, Ontario), Luke Moodie (Oakville, Ontario), and Zach Josepher (Wantagh, NY) were honored on the CCM Hockey Division III All-American Second and Third Teams.
AHCA's CCM Hockey All-American Ice Hockey Teams are chosen by members of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) and sponsored by CCM Hockey.
Oswego State's Rodrigues has been given the honor of the 2013 Sid Watson Memorial Award, named after one of AHCA's greatest coaches to recognize the NCAA Division III National College Player of the Year. Rodrigues was one of ten finalists for the award. The award was announced Thursday evening at the student-athlete banquet to kick off the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championships being played at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY this weekend.
Paul Rodrigues is the first SUNYAC player to receive the award since it began in 1993. According to Oswego State Athletics, he may be the first Oswego State athlete to be named National Player of the Year in any sport in department history.
In addition, Rodrigues was named a 2012-2013 Men's CCM Hockey Division III First Team All-American. Rodrigues led the SUNYAC conference with 45 points which included 15 goals and 30 assists. Nationally, for Division III, he is tied for first in assists (30), ranks second in points (45), and second in points per game (1.61). Rodrigues recently had the game winning overtime goal to beat Adrian College 3-2 in the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Quarterfinal.
Oswego State will play in the Frozen Four at the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY. Oswego will face Norwich at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 15th. Rodrigues looks to propel Oswego State to another national title.
In addition to this honor, Rodrigues was also a 2013 SUNYAC First Team All-League player and 2013 SUNYAC Herb Hammond Player of the Year.

Moodie, a senior forward for Oswego State led the conference in goals and was second in points (43) with 22 goals and 21 assists. Nationally, Moodie ranked second in goals (22), sixth in points per game (1.54), and tied for first in power play goals with 9. In addition to this honor, Moodie earned 2013 SUNYAC First Team All-League honors.
Josepher is a senior defensemen for Oswego State. He led the SUNYAC conference defensemen with 9 goals. He was third in points (22) with 9 goals and 13 assists. Josepher contributes to the success of the Oswego State defense that only allows 1.75 goals per game, which is ranked third nationally.
Plattsburgh State goalie Matthieu Cadieux was recognized as a 2012-2013 AHCA CCM Division III All-American Third Team member. Cadieux was a part of the second best record in the SUNYAC conference, with Plattsburgh posting a 15-7-1 record. Cadieux was ranked second in the SUNYAC conference in goals against average (1.78) and save percentage (.929). He ranks sixth in Division III in goals against average (1.78). This is the second time Cadieux has been recognized as an All-American by the AHCA. He was recognized as an ACHA CCM Division III Second Team All-American for the 2011-2012 season. In addition to this honor, Cadieux was named a 2013 First Team All-SUNYAC player.
