Canton Men’s Hockey Hosts Alzheimer’s Awareness Game
CANTON, N.Y. – The Canton men's hockey team hosted an Alzheimer's Awareness game during their home game against Morrisville on Saturday, February 7.
The day kicked off with a caregiver presentation in the Roos House Mezzanine. There were tables with resources set up outside the entrance to the rink throughout the afternoon. The team encouraged fans to wear purple to support Alzheimer's awareness.
There was a puck drop ceremony just before the game with Assistant Athletic Trainer Vanessa Cook and her family as her father suffers from Alzheimer's. Cook has helped spearhead this event as part of her Master's degree program.
Throughout the game Canton players wore special Alzheimer's Awareness jerseys and they were later auctioned off.
At the first intermission caregivers and their loved ones gathered at the concourse level above the stands at center ice for a photo. There was also raffle baskets for caregivers and a 50/50 raffle.

Additionally, there was a separate event on campus on Friday from in the Miller Campus Center called "Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia" put on by the Canton Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Alzheimer's Association of Central New York.
