SUNYAC announces weekly honors for spring action March 14-20

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Liam Kelly (JR)
    Fredonia, 3B (Buffalo, N.Y./Bishop Timon)
Liam went 9 for 17 (.529) with 6 RBI and a double as the Devils went 5-0 in Florida, including a doubleheader sweep of No. 16 Oswego. Kelly was 4 for 5 in a 7-6 extra inning, come-from-behind victory on Sunday. For the year, he is batting .486.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Ryan Votypka (SO)
New Paltz (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park)
New Paltz sophomore pitcher Ryan Votypka hurled 4 2/3 innings in relief to help lift New Paltz to a SUNYAC series-clinching 4-3 win over top-ranked SUNY Cortland on Saturday in Leesburg, Fla., as a part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Entering into the game in the bottom of the fifth with one out and runners on first and second, Votypka forced the first batter he faced into a fielder's choice before striking out the next batter to end the inning. All told, Votypka did not allow any hits in his 4 2/3 frames of work and permitted just three base runners while striking out four. It marked the Hawks' first-ever SUNYAC series win over Cortland, which won the NCAA Division III national championship last year. On the year, Votypka ranks second on the team in strikeouts (13) while holding a 4.82 ERA in 9 1/3 innings of work.

MEN'S LACROSSE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Eric Soderquist (SO)
    Potsdam, Attack (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown)

    Oswego (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa)
Russo sported a .600 save percentage and a 7.00 goals-against average in a 1-1 week for the Lakers. The junior allowed just four goals while making 11 saves in a 7-4 win over Hartwick College on Wednesday. On Saturday, Russo kept Oswego in striking distance of St. John Fisher College all afternoon, stopping 10 shots in a close 10-9 defeat at home.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Kristen Ohberg (JR)
    Cortland, Attack (Brewster, NY/Brewster)
Ohberg became the 16th player in program history to reach 200 career points as she helped lead the top-ranked Red Dragons (5-0) to an 18-10 win at ninth-ranked Tufts last Wednesday. Ohberg scored a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists and added one ground ball and one draw control. Ohberg, who now has 202 career points on 125 goals and 77 assists, leads Cortland in scoring with 24 points on 16 goals and eight assists.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jaclyn Marry (FR)

Supporting Info: Helped Oneonta to a 1-1 record last week with 24 saves overall including 11 against nationally ranked and undefeated St. John Fisher. For the week she had a 71% save percentage (24 saves, 17 GA).

SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK- Fallon Spriggs (JR)
    New Paltz. Outfield (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston)
Spriggs batted .550 (11-for-20) and slugged 1.100 (22 total bases in 20 at-bats) in a 4-2 week for the Hawks during their annual southern trip from Friday-Sunday. Of Spriggs' 11 hits, five were extra-base knocks (two triples, two home runs and one double), and she also stole one base in one attempt. On the season, Spriggs is tied for first in the SUNYAC in triples (2) and ranks second in the conference in runs scored (9) while leading the team in batting average (.474) and slugging percentage (.871).
