Cortland’s McKenna Barry Sweeps SUNYAC Softball Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Cortland senior McKenna Barry put together a dominant all-around performance last week, earning both SUNYAC Softball Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors as the Red Dragons closed out the regular season with a 5-1 week.
Offensively, Barry batted .526 (10-for-19) with 2 homers, 4 doubles, 7 RBI, 2 walks, and 3 runs scored across the week while also serving as Cortland's designated player in 3 games. She delivered in the biggest moments, especially in Cortland's 6-0 win at league-leading New Paltz, going 2-for-3 with a home run, double, walk, and 4 RBI. She added 5 more hits over a doubleheader sweep of Potsdam, going 5-for-7 with another homer and double.
Barry was lights out in the circle, throwing 3 shutouts. Over 19.0 innings, she allowed just 9 hits and 4 walks while striking out 14. She opened the week by shutting down league-leading New Paltz with a 4-hit, 7-inning shutout, adding 3 strikeouts in the win. In that same game, Barry delivered at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a homer, double, walk, and 4 RBI in a 6-0 victory. She followed that up with a 3-hit shutout and 5 strikeouts in a 6-inning 8-0 win over Potsdam, and then finished the week with a 2-hit, 6-strikeout shutout in another 6-inning 8-0 win over Plattsburgh.
