Two SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Athletes Clinch National Titles
Buffalo State’s Sasha Henry (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. Vernon High School) and the College at Brockport’s Zach Ferrara (Rochester, NY/ Irondequoit High School) won national titles at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend in Naperville, IL. The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) had fourteen athletes named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Americans.
All-America honors were given to those who scored any portion of a team point in an event at the NCAA Championships.
Two SUNYAC women's teams placed in the team rankings. The Buffalo State women's team tied for ninth with 16 points, and Geneseo tied for 31st with six points.
Five SUNYAC men's teams earned a spot in the team rankings. Brockport tied for 14th (10 points), Oneonta tied for 21st (eight points), Geneseo tied for 29th (six points), Fredonia tied for 51st (two points) and Buffalo State tied for 58th (one point).
On the women’s side, Henry took the title in the 60m dash where she finished 7.60, ahead of second place finisher who ran 7.61. She scored 10 of Buffalo State's 16 points to contribute to a ninth place team finish for the Buffalo State women's team. Henry was also named a 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American.
Cortland State's Africa Harper (Bronx / John F. Kennedy) competed in the 400m dash, running a time of 57.97 in the preliminaries. Her time was not enough to advance to the finals.
Buffalo State’s Jazmin Dunham (Rochester, NY / Greece Olympia) placed third in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.65. She scored six points, making up the rest of Buffalo State's points for their women's ninth place team finish. Dunham was also named a 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American.
In the distance medley relay, Geneseo was the lone SUNYAC competitor. The Geneseo distance medley relay team scored six points and ran for a third place finish. Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North High School), Cailin Koawlewski (Fredonia, NY/Fredonia High School), Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima High School), and Alyssa Smith (Rochester, NY/Brighton High School) ran together for a time of 11:34.65. This performance was responsible for Geneseo's 31st place women's team finish with six points. All four members of the Geneseo distance medley relay team were named 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Americans.
Cortland's Sarah Bonnell (Norwich, NY/Norwich High School) placed 11th in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.25m.
Amber Stephens (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland High School) a SUNY Cortland Red Dragon, placed 14th in the women's triple jump with 10.93m.Another Cortland Red Dragon, Nicole Shafer (Troy, NY/Columbia High School) had a 12th place finish in the women's pentathlon with 3255 points.
On the men's side, Ferrara, a Brockport Golden Eagle, won the national title in the men's pole vault with a height of 5.09m. Ferrara scored 10 points, the only points for Brockport, which earned a 14th place finish for the Brockport men's team. Ferrara was also named a 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American.
Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park, NY / Shenendehowa High School), a Cortland Red Dragon also competed in the men's pole vault. Ten Eyck had a height of 4.64m, which was good for a 10th place finish, but did not earn any points for the SUNY Cortland team.
Oneonta State's Sean Bernstein (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker High School) achieved a second place finish in the men's 60m dash. He ran a time of 6.84, just .02 seconds short of the first place time of 6.82. Bernstein contributed the only 8 points the Oneonta men's team had for a 21st place team finish. Bernstein was also named a 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All American.
Bumkuth Jiak (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville High School) of Buffalo State competed in the men's 800m run. He ran a time of 1:53.27 in the preliminaries, which did not qualify for the finals.
Jake Alviene (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia High School), an Oneonta Red Dragon competed in the 60m hurdles. He had a time of 8.29 in the preliminaries, which was not enough to advance to the finals.

Buffalo State's Cory Cox (Rochester, NY/Rochester East High School) had an eighth place finish of 7.02m, which contributed the one and only point to the Buffalo State men's team overall finish of 58th. Cox was also named a 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American

Andre Hernandez-Green (Philadelphia, NY/ Indian River), a Cortland Red Dragon also competed in the event. His distance of 6.87m earned a 10th place finish, but did not earn any points for the Cortland State men's team.
In the heptathlon, Fredonia State's Spencer Lefort (Java Center, N.Y. / Pioneer High School) had a seventh place finish. He achieved 4,839 points in the heptathlon, which contributed the only two points to Fredonia State's overall men's team finish of 51st place. Lefort was also named a 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-American.
The Geneseo men's team earned a third place finish in the distance medley relay. Chris Carter (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island High School), Anthony George (West Seneca West, NY/West Seneca High School), Jesse Cleary-Klerk (Syracuse, NY/Westhill High School), and Alex Brimstein (Webster, NY/Thomas High School) ran for a time of 10:00.33. They earned six points for the Geneseo men's team. All members of the Geneseo distance medley relay team were named 2013 USTFCCCA Division III Indoor Track & Field All-Americans.
