Woodward Named Academic All-American; Evans on All-District Team
SUNY Cortland senior field hockey midfielder Sara Woodward (Ancram/Pine Plains) has been chosen as a national 2012-13 Capital One Division III Women’s At-Large Second Team Academic All-American. The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In addition, Woodward and senior women’s swimmer Jessica Evans (Hamburg) were named to the Capital One Division III Academic All-District Team in the women’s at-large category for District 3. The district covers all Division III schools in New York State. Woodward is an all-district honoree for the second straight year and Evans earns the award for the first time.
A physical education major who entered the spring semester with a 3.99 overall grade point average, Woodward was a four-time all-region player for the Red Dragons. Last fall, she scored seven goals and recorded three assists for 17 points in 17 games.
Woodward became only the 10th player in school history to reach the career 100-point mark and concluded her career with 43 goals and 14 assists for exactly 100 points. She also competed in the 2012 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Senior All-Star Game.
Evans is a physical education major who entered the spring with a 3.89 cumulative GPA. This past winter she earned second-team All-SUNYAC honors with a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly at the SUNYAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
Evans also swam on a 200-yard freestyle relay team that won the SUNYAC title and earned honorable mention All-America honors with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships.
