SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships Set for Feb. 20-23
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) swimming and diving teams will make their way to Buffalo, NY for the 2013 SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The championships will be held at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College beginning Wednesday, February 20 and will run through Saturday.
Wednesday will feature the first round of preliminary dives beginning at 12:00 p.m. The following three-days will feature preliminary races and diving during the morning sessions, starting at 10:00 a.m. each day, followed by event finals in the evening at 6:00 p.m.
Last year Geneseo took home the SUNYAC title for both men’s and women’s swimming and diving. The Geneseo men continued their winning streak by nabbing their 14th consecutive team title. The Knights accumulated 731 points to beat out the second place Cortland Red Dragons with 690 points.
The Geneseo women won their fifth straight SUNYAC swimming and diving championship title. The Geneseo women had 721.5 points for a first place finish to overcome second place, Fredonia who accumulated 657.50 points.
The SUNY Cortland men’s team looks to interrupt Geneseo’s streak after a winning regular season including a win again Geneseo,162-132, in November.
On the women’s side, both Cortland and New Paltz are eager to take the SUNYAC title. The Red Dragons outlasted Geneseo in November, 156-138. The Hawks also defeated Geneseo in January, 180.5-159.5.
Tickets will be sold at the door for both prelims and finals each day. The cost is $6 per adult and $3 for children ages 6-12. SUNYAC college students with ID and kids five and under are free. All-sessions passes will also be made available at the door. An adult pass is $30 and is good for all sessions (prelims and finals). Included with the pass will be one heat sheet for each session. A child pass is $15 and good for all-sessions (prelims and finals). No heat sheet will be included with this pass.
