2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Recap
State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) athletes competed at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships that took place at Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas. The Championships began Wednesday and concluded Saturday night. The top 16 finishers in the preliminaries of each event advanced to the finals. The top eight finishers in each individual and relay event earn All-American honors, while places 9-16 earn honorable mention All-Americans honors.
50 -Yard Freestyle
Sarah Culmo (West Islip, NY), a Cortland junior, earned honorable mention All-American honors with a 15th place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. She finished with a time of 23.69 in the consolation finals.
On the men's side, the Cortland Red Dragon, Dan Maximowicz (Chenango Forks, NY) finished 41st in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.37, but did not advance to the finals.
200-Yard Freestyle
Abby Max (New Hartford, NY), the Geneseo sophomore placed 16th in the 200-yard freestyle consolation finals. She finished with a time of 1:53.37 earning honorable mention All-American honors.
The Cortland State women finished 12th in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.04, scoring 10 points for the women's team. The group consisted of junior Culmo, junior MK Dugue (Binghamton, NY), senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg, NY), and sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego, NY). They earned Honorable Mention All-American honors.
The Geneseo women also competed in the event, but swam for a 17th place finish, just missing qualifying for the consolation finals. Sophomore Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls, NY), senior Elyssa Max (New Hartford, NY), senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Montour Falls, NY), and sophomore Abby Max (New Hartford, NY) finished in a time of 1:37.12
For the men's 200-yard freestyle relay, Cortland was the lone SUNYAC competitor. Cortland missed qualifying for the finals, placing 21st. Freshman Judd Simon (Oneida, NY), senior Ben Strickland (Stanfordville, NY), senior Maximowicz, and freshman Reeve Callen (Oswego, NY) finished with a time of 1:24.34.
500-Yard Freestyle
Geneseo sophomore Abby Max participated in the 500-yard freestyle. She finished 14th in the consolation final with a time of 4:59:39 earning honorable mention All-American honors.
Chelsea Alloco (Chatham, NJ), a SUNY New Paltz junior also competed in the 500 yard freestyle. She placed 28th in the preliminaries with a time of 5:04.17, which was not enough to advance.
SUNY New Paltz competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay, Carley Marshall (Cornwall, NY), Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, NY), junior Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and junior Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) finished with a 21st-place standard of 7:51.40.
Yuka Suzuka, a New Paltz senior placed 18th in the 100-yard backstroke preliminaries. She swam a time 56.86 which was not enough to compete in the finals.
200-Yard IM
New Paltz senior Suzuka competed in the 200 IM. She placed 35th, not qualifying for finals. She swam a time of 2:11.20.
400-Yard IM
Allocco, a New Paltz junior; swam in the 400 IM preliminaries. She finished 21st with a time of 4:34.18, which was not enough to advance to the finals.
200-Yard Medley Relay
The Geneseo 200-yard medley relay team earned honorable mention All-American honors with a 15th place finish in the consolation final. The 200-yard medley team was composed of sophomore Molly Carney (Chenango Forks, NY), senior Eileen Goralski (Queensbury, NY), Abby Max (New Hartford, NY) and sophomore Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls, NY). They swam a time of 1:46.85.
Just missing an All-American honorable mention was the SUNY New Paltz 200 medley relay team. Yuka Suzuka, senior Carly Marshall, sophomore Colleen Stewart (Shelton, CT), and junior Scalise finished 17th, touching in at 1:47.33.
The Cortland women's 200-yard medley relay finished 21st in preliminaries with a time of 1:48.77, but did not advance. The 200-yard medley relay consisted of Culmo (West Islip, NY), sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego, NY), senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg, NY) and junior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton, NY).
500-Yard Butterfly
New Paltz’s Carly Marshall opened placed 29th in 2:10.11.
200-Yard Breaststroke
Geneseo junior Kaitlin Wilcoxen earned all-America honors in the 200-yard breaststroke finishing 13th (2:20.48) Saturday to cap Geneseo’s performance at the NCAA Championships.
3-Meter Diving:
Fredonia State's Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY), a senior; finished 11th with 453.80 points while senior Ashley Keller was 15th with 423.75 points. Both women earned honorable mention All-American honors.

The team consisted of sophomore Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls, NY), junior Lily Powell (Selkirk, NY), senior Kaitlin Wilcoxen (Manlius, NY), and sophomore Abby Max (New Hartford, NY). They earned honorable mention All-American honors.
The New Paltz 400-yard medley relay team earned honorable mention All-American
honors. They swam a time of 3:53.96, which was good for a 15th place finish.
Yuka Suzuka, senior Carly Marshall, sophomore Colleen Stewart ), and Victoria Scalise
were members of the team.
SUNY Cortland competed in the event with junior Sarah Culmo senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg, NY),
sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego, NY), and junior MK Dugue (Binghamton, NY). The Cortland team
was disqualified in the event.
500-Yard Butterfly

Geneseo Sophomore Eileen Goralski (Queensbury/Queensbury) also competed in the
200-yard breaststroke, placing 26th in a time of 2:25.51.
100-Yard Freestyle
Cortland’s Culmo finished in 17th place in the prelims, with places nine through 16 advancing. Culmo’s time of 51.71 seconds broke her own school mark of 52.00 seconds that she set at this year’s SUNYAC Championships. Culmo finished eight hundredths of a second behind the 16th-place swimmer.
Geneseo sophomore Haleigh Wixson (Montour Falls/Watkins Glen) competed in the 100-yard
freestyle, placing 36th in a time of 52.74.
New Paltz’s Scalise clocked a 51.77 to place 20th overall.
400-Yard Freestyle Relay
Geneseo’s 400-yard freestyle relay team placed 17th in the preliminaries, missing a
spot in the finals – and all-America honors – by .28 seconds. The quartet of sophomore
Abby Max, senior Elyssa Max, junior Powell and Wixson posted a time of 3:30.67.
Cortland’s team of Culmo, senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg), junior M.K. Dugue and sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego) finished in 22nd place in the preliminaries in 3:32.99 and did not advance to Saturday evening’s competition.
1,650 Freestyle
New Paltz Junior Chelsea Allocco of the State University of New York at New Paltz women’s swimming
team earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 1,650 freestyle by placing 16th with a time
of 17:21.54
200-Yard Backstroke
Suzuka wound up placing 21st in the 200 backstroke, as she posted a time of 2:03.51.
1 Meter Diving
Ryan Fuller (Endicott, NY), a Fredonia State senior earned honorable mention All-American
honors with a 10th place finish. Fuller scored 448.96 points in the consolation finals to
contribute 7 points for the Fredonia State men's team.
Oneonta's Jermaine Miller (Elmira, NY) also competed in the event, but did not advance to
the finals.
Ashley Keller (Lockport, NY) finished in 12th in the consolation finals with 402.65 points.
3-Meter Diving:
Fredonia State's Sarah Ficarro (Owego, NY), a senior; finished 11th with 453.80 points while senior Ashley Keller was 15th with 423.75 points. Both women earned honorable mention All-American honors.
Fredonia’s Ryan Fuller finished sixth with 491.20 points
Jermaine Miller finished 17th in the 3-meter event with 447.30 points,
which was only 10 points out of 16th place.
Overall Fredonia men’s team finished 32nd. On the women’s side Geneseo finished tied for 20th, Fredonia 36th, Cortland 37th, and New Paltz 47th.All-Americans:
