SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships Day 2
Results
With day two of the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships in the books, Geneseo continues their lead in both the men's and women's team standings with 529 and 582 points respectively.
The Cortland Red Dragons won three of the seven events on the men's side while Geneseo captured four titles on the women's side.
MEN
Geneseo men's foursome of Kristian Tialios, Kenny Athans, Yonghoon Jun and Jordan Gay won the 200 medley relay in 1:33.41 followed by Cortland. These two teams have been swapping the title in this event since 2005.
Geneseo's Kenny Athans broke the SUNYAC meet and conference records and made the NCAA “B” cut after he touched the wall in 4:07.73 in the 400 IM. He was almost six second ahead of second and third place Lucas Santiago from Oneonta and Bryan Schaub (4:07.73) from Geneseo (4:13.72).
Potsdam's Tyler Zapisek grabbed his first SUNYAC title in the 100 yard butterfly in 51.32. Geneseo's Andy Schunk and Yonghoon Jun touched second (51.42) and third (51.74).
The 2013 SUNYAC champion in the 200 yard freestyle, Callen Reeve (Cortland) defended his title and bettered his time to 1:41.60. Behind him was teammate Cortland's Mark Hanifin (1:42.65) and Fredonia's Adrian Van Hall (1:44.22).
Cortland's Jack Jakubek broke the SUNYAC meet and conference record on route to claiming the 100 yard breastroke title in 57.08 making the NCAA “B” cut time. Second place finisher, Potsdam's Richard Zimmerman also made the NCAA “B” cut time (57.41) and Fredonia's Adam Clouthier finished third.
Oneonta's Colton Roe took the 100 yard backstroke title in 51.64. Geneseo's Kristian Tialios and Fredonia's Eric Jordan were right behind him for second and third place.
Cortland's team of Alex Spatzer, Reeve Callen, Mark Hanifin and Matt Hasbrouch captured the 800 yard freestyle relay title in 6:57.07. This is the fourth time in five years that Cortland's relay team took home the SUNYAC gold in this event. Geneseo finished second and Oneonta was third.

WOMEN
Amanda Grossman, Michaela Auer, Chrisanna Hickey and Sarah Culmo combined for a time of 1:46.82 to take the 200 yard medley relay title back to Cortland. Geneseo and Brockport finished behind the Red Dragons in 1:48.31 and 1:48.36 respectively.
Three-time defending champion Chelsea Allocco (New Paltz) was just shy of breaking the conference and meet records as she swam the 400 IM in 4:30.86. Allocco finished almost seven minutes before her competition. Lauren Zentko (Oneonta) and Jenna Gibbons (Geneseo) came in second and third respectively.
Geneseo's Hailey Modelewski broke the SUNYAC meet record in the 100 yard butterfly in 57.13 to take her first SUNYAC gold in this event and make the NCAA “B” cut time. Cortland's Chrisanna Hickey also touched in time for the NCAA “B” cut, 57.65. Geneseo's Lily Powell finish third, 58.13.
Two-time defending champion Abigail Max (Geneseo) again captured the 200 yard freestyle SUNYAC title in 1:50.36 and broke the SUNYAC meet record set in 2009. Max also made the NCAA “B” cut in this event. Cortland's Sarah Culmo finished second in 1:54.36 while Cassidy Griger from New Paltz touched third in 1:54.49.
Melanie Melewski (Brockport) captured the 100 yard breaststroke touching the wall in 1:05.09 to break the SUNYAC meet record set in 2010. Samantha Granan from New Paltz touched in 1:05.68 for second place while Fredonia's Larissa Dobson was third in 1:05.68.
Geneseo's Lauren Boyce interrupted New Paltz's four-year streak winning this event as she won the 100 yard backstroke in 58.33. Teammate Louisa Seelbach (59.18) and Cortland's Angelica Ford (59.64) finished second and third in that order.
For the sixth time in seven years the Geneseo relay team won the 800 yard free relay. The foursome of Hailey Modelewski, Julie Holloway, Lauren Boyce and Abigail Max finished in 7:43.75. New Paltz and Oneonta were second and third.
Saturday is the final day of the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. followed by finals at 6 p.m. Follow the live results here.
