SUNYAC Athletes Make a Splash at 2014 NCAA's
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) held their Swimming and Diving Championships this past week and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) had 13 athletes come from our conference. One from Buffalo State, one from SUNY Cortland, three from Fredonia State, six from Geneseo, one from New Paltz and finally one from SUNY Oneonta. All these athletes did a tremendous job this season at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship.
The top eight finishers earn All-America honors and places nine through 16 are honorable mention.
Freshman Alec Fleet (Buffalo State) finished off his rookie season well as he placed 16th in the 3 meter dive, and also got All-American Honorable Mention. Freshman Arron Carlson of Fredonia State made a splash at the championships as he finished 13th for the 1 meter dive and also made All-American Honorable Mention.
On the women's side sophomore Miranda Fergus of SUNY Cortland finished 13th in the 1 meter dive which earned her All-American Honorable Mention. Senior teammates from Fredonia State Ashley Keller and Katelyn Haley both earned All-American Honorable Mention as Keller finished 11th in the 3 meter dive and Haley finished 12th. Ashely Keller finished 11th in the one meter dive as well.
Geneseo had a great year at the NCAA Division III Championships led by Abigail Max. Max earned six All-American Honorable Mention Certificates this weekend as she finished 10th in the 500 freestyle, 12th in the 200 freestyle and 14th in the 100 freestyle in individual performances. The other three Geneseo did as a team as they placed 14th in the 200 freestyle relay, 15th in the 800 freestyle relay, and 15th in the 400 freestyle relay. On the team with Max who also won All-American Honorable Mentions include Julie Holloway who raced the 200, 400 and 800 yard freestyle relay, Lauren Boyce who raced the 400 and 800 yard freestyle relay, Stephanie Wilcoxen raced the 200,400 and 800 yard freestyle relay and Kala Wilkins who raced the 200 yard freestyle relay.
Congratulations are in order for all the SUNYAC athletes who participated in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. It is a feat that all SUNYAC schools and athletes should be proud of.
