    Geneseo Women Capture Seventh Consecutive Swimming and Diving Championship

    Geneseo women were crowned the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Team Champions for the 22nd time in the history of the program and the seventh consecutive year in a row.

    The Blue Wave finished with 880 points. Cortland followed with 573 team points and New Paltz was third (472). Over the course of the three days there the women broke five meet records and one conference record.

    Junior Abagail Max (Geneseo) was named the SUNYAC Women's Outstanding Swimmer as voted on by the conference coaches. Fredonia senior Ashley Keller earned the SUNYAC Women's Outstanding Diver award after winning both the 1 and 3 meter dives at the championship meet. New Paltz's Chelsea Allocco was honored with the Grace Mowatt award for her overall excellence in academics and athletics. Geneseo's Paul Dotterweich was voted the SUNYAC Women's Coach of the Year after leading his team to the Conference team title.

    For the fourth year in a row Chelsea Allocco (New Paltz) won the women's 1650 free in 17:11.12. Oneonta's Lauren Zentko was second (17:33.06) and Geneseo's Sophie deFreitas (17:38.71).

    Lauren Boyce took the 200 yard backstroke back to Geneseo after New Paltz won the event for the past four years, 2:05.72. Buffalo State's Charlotte Archdeacon followed in second place in a time of while Cortland's Angelica Ford came in third.

    Abigail Max (Geneseo) took the 100 yard freestyle crown away from two-time defending champion Sarah Culmo who touched second. Max finished in 51.55 and Culmo in 52.12 followed by Oneonta's Chandler Shepard, 52.81.

    For the first time since 1988 a Brockport swimmer won the 200 yard breaststroke. It was Melanie Melweski who finished in a time of 2:22.66. She was followed by Samantha Granan from New Paltz (2:26.23) and Larissa Dobson from Fredonia (2:26.25).

    Hailey Modelewski Hailey made the NCAA “B” cut time, but just missed breaking the SUNYAC meet and conference records in the 200 yard butterfly touching the wall in 2:06.94. Teammates Lily Powell and Jenna Gibbons were second and third respectively with Powell also making the NCAA “B” cut time in 2:07.38.

    The Geneseo Blue Wave grabbed the 400 yard free relay for the third-straight year. Brockport finished second, 3:34.49 and Cortland was third, 3:34.95
