Oneonta Baseball raises over $1300 in "Strikeout Cancer" event
The SUNY Oneonta baseball team held its "Strikeout Cancer" fundraiser this past weekend during its three-game series with Oswego to support cancer research and education. Through its efforts, the Red Dragons raised over $1300 including over $300 during its Saturday doubleheader with the Lakers. All of the money raised will be sent to the American Cancer Society for the Strikeout Cancer Fund.
"It was a great event that surrounded our SUNYAC doubleheader versus Oswego," said head baseball coach Ben Grimm. "In our program we feel it is important to provide our players and coaches some perspective on life. That playing to win is incredibly important, but that there are vastly more devastating things in life than losing a game. We hope that it teaches our players to appreciate the things in life that we take for granted from time to time and also, to appreciate that a battle in an at bat or a game is small when compared to a battle with cancer."
Grimm concluded, "It's our small way of giving back and doing our part by raising funds to donate to the American Cancer Society. We'd like to thank everyone that supported our efforts in the event and we look forward to building this into a yearly tradition for our program."
