2014 SUNYAC Baseball Conference Awards Selected
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the 2014 baseball all-conference teams as well as player, pitcher, rookie, and coach of the year awards. Anthony Iacomini of Cortland was named the 2014 Bob Wallace Player of the Year, Steve Ascher of Oneonta won the Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year award, Tim Cronin of Oswego was awarded the Clark V. Whited Rookie of the Year, and the Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year went to Justin Beach of Brockport.
Iacomini had a terrific season thus far as he has a .357 batting average with 27 runs 35 RBI and two home runs. He also has a .452 slugging percentage with 16 walks and only 11 strikeouts. His successful season helped Cortland win the regular season title as well as its fourth straight SUNYAC Baseball Championship.
Ascher finished his junior year in incredible fashion winning the Don Axtell Pitcher of the Year award. He finished the regular season 6-4 with an incredible ERA of just 1.82; he struck out 82 batters out of 244 and only walked 20 batters. He pitched the most out of any Oneonta pitcher this season tossing 69.1 innings and only allowing 14 earned runs.
Tim Cronin finished a great rookie campaign this season by capturing the Clark V. Whited Rookie of the Year award.  He finished the regular season undefeated with a 5-0 record with a 2.30 ERA on 43 inning pitched. He only allowed 11 earned runs, walking six and striking out 19 batters out of 167.
Beach was named the Walter Nitardy Coach of the Year this season after bringing Brockport to the SUNYAC Championship where they eventually were defeated by Cortland. Beach is in his sixth season coaching and has led Brockport to the NCAA Regional Tournament twice. He hopes to continue that success this year as Brockport hopes to get an at-large bid to the tournament. Beach is assisted by his staff, Ory Mee, Mike Meola, Ryan Skellie, Kevin Miller and Dan Taylor.
