Joe Brown Named ABCA Regional Coach of the Year
SUNY Cortland baseball head coach Joe Brown has been named the 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Div. III New York Region Coach of the Year. Brown has won the award nine times in his 15 years as the Red Dragons' head coach, including four times in the last five seasons.
Brown guided Cortland to a 36-10 record and a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Div. III World Series. The Red Dragons won the NCAA Div. III New York Regional title and advanced to the World Series for the 12th time, with eight of those appearances under Brown's guidance.
In addition, Cortland captured its fourth straight State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title and 32nd overall. The Red Dragons reached the 30-win mark for the 10th straight year.
Brown boasts an overall record of 553-152-3 (.783) at Cortland. A former standout player at Canandaigua Academy in Western New York, Brown was inducted earlier this summer into the Section Five Baseball Hall of Fame.
