Cortland to Host SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Championship
SUNY Cortland will host the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Lacrosse Championship. Top-seeded Cortland and second-seeded Plattsburgh will face off Saturday at noon.
With SUNY Cortland hosting both the men's and women's lacrosse, the women's lacrosse championship game will be played at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Cortland and Plattsburgh both defeated their opponents in the semi-final round of the SUNYAC men's lacrosse tournament.
Cortland beat SUNY Potsdam, 16-5 to advance to the SUNYAC men's lacrosse final. Cortland rookie, Zach Hopps (Akwesasne / Massena) contributed four goals in the win against Potsdam. Joe Slavik (Binghamton / Seton Catholic), Mike Cummings (Syracuse / East Syracuse Minoa), and Benjamin Dunlavey (Elmira / Corning East) all netted two goal. Cody Consul (Webster / Webster Schroeder), Thomas Casey (Yorktown / Yorktown), James Stravarkis (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough), Matt Rakoczy (Clifton Park / Albany Academy), Eric Ohman (Islip / Islip), and Hunter Osborne (Homer / Homer) contributed one goal apiece.
Plattsburgh State defeated the College at Brockport, 15-7. Plattsburgh's Tim Lawrence (Kings Park/Kings Park) was a key player in the match and contributed four goals and one assist. Joe Kramer (Lindenhurst/Lindenhurst) was also critical to the win, with four goals and one assist as well. Tom Duggan (Levittown/Levittown Division High School) netted three goals and one assist. James Read (Miller Place/Miller Place) added two goals and another assist for the win against Brockport.
Cortland State will be entering the SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Championships undefeated, 16-0 while Plattsburgh State is 14-3 overall. Earlier this season, Cortland and Plattsburgh faced off when the Red Dragons narrowly defeated the Cardinals 15-12.
