Cypress and Hughes Named SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State's Charles Cypress and Cortland's Amarian Hughes are the SUNYAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances this past weekend.
Charles Cypress continued his great season with a pair of exceptional performances at the DIII Elite Meet hosted by Nazareth College. Cypress claimed victory in the 60-meter dash with a career-best time of 6.95 seconds, which is now the best mark in the SUNYAC. He also placed second in the 200-meter dash with another career-best time of 22.08 seconds, both qualifying marks for the AARTFC.
Amarian Hughes delivered an outstanding performance at the Cornell Kane Invitational, where he finished first in the long jump out of 26 competitors with a personal best of 7.14 meters (23' 5.25"). He also took first in the triple jump at 15.09 meters (49' 6.25") in a field of 19 athletes. His long jump now ranks 17th nationally in Division III, while his triple jump performance would have ranked him fourth nationally if not for an earlier performance where he already sits second.
