Geneseo Wins Men's Swimming and Diving Championships

The Geneseo men's swimming and diving team successfully defended their team title at the annual State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship, hosted at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY, February 10-12. It is the 13th consecutive title for the Blue Wave who finished with 854 points to second place Cortland’s 674.
Junior Nate Foley started the night off for the Blue Wave when he dominated the 1650 freestyle in a time of 16:22.11. Teammate Jeff Singer took second place honors (16:37.24) and Mike Mitchell of Fredonia earned a spot in the top three with a time of 16:37.69. Sophomore Austin Brennan won his second individual event of the meet with a time of 1:54.80 in the 200 backstroke. Cortland’s Justin Nelson and Judd Simon finished second (1:55.93) and third (1:56.24), respectively.
Senior Wills DeMoulin got Geneseo back on track with his second win of the meet as he captured the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 489.75 points. Brockport’s Dan Brigano finished behind DeMoulin for the second time with a score of 459.95, just edging out third place Travis Burke (459.20) of Cortland.
The 400 freestyle relay proved to be as exciting as ever with a one-hundredth of a second as the deciding margin. Brennan and Strothenke teamed up with Frank Schiappa and Aaron Wagner for a winning time of 3:07.95, beating Cortland’s quartet of Maximowicz, Simon, Distler and Ben Strickland (3:07.96). The Oswego Lakers took third in 3:12.10.
