Brockport's Quagliana Garners First Team All-American Honors

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – SUNYAC swimmers and divers have completed competition on the third day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
The College at Brockport senior Maria Quagliana highlighted the day with a first team All-America performance on the 1-meter board. She scored 407.40 points on her 11 dives, ending her collegiate diving career as a three-time All-American.
Fredonia State sophomore Sarah Ficarro did not fare as well as she would have liked on the 1-meter. Despite performing the wrong dive in the ninth round of preliminaries, Ficarro still mananged to advance to the consolation finals and scored a 358.45 to finish 16th overall.
New Paltz had three women swim individual events on the third day. Sophomore Carly Marshall kicked off the morning in the 200 butterfly and used a strong front half to clock to a 2:08.61, placing 26th overall. Yuka Suzuka took on the 100 backstroke and covered the event in 59.01 and senior Becky Backer went a 1:06.18 in the 100 breaststroke.
In men’s action on Friday, sophomore Frank Schiappa and juniors Aaron Wagner, Andrew Kuter and Dan Strothenke finished 25th in the 800-freestyle relay with a time of 7:04.31, two full seconds ahead of their seed time entering the meet.
The national championship meet will conclude on Saturday.
