Rodriguez and DeMoulin End NCAA Championships on a High Note
Five individuals and two relay teams represented the SUNYAC on the fourth and final day of the 2011 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Geneseo senior Michelle Rodriguez collected her school record for all sports 16th All-America certificate by finishing 10th place in the 100-yard freestyle with a school-record time of 51.08 to earn honorable mention All-America in the event.
Senior Wills DeMoulin earned his third All-America certificate of his career with an 11th place score of 443.00 points in three-meter diving on Saturday. DeMoulin claimed honorable mention status for the third time overall and first on the high board as he was a two-time winner on the one-meter board.
On Saturday, sophomore Frank Schiappa and juniors Aaron Wagner, Andrew Kuter and Dan Strothenke were disqualified for a false start in the 400 freestyle relay, while Schiappa finished 33rd in a school record time of 46.21 in the 100 freestyle.
New Paltz junior Christine Rieth and sophomore Yuka Suzuka competed in individual events and took part in the 400 freestyle relay during the final day.
Rieth placed 51st out of 55 competitors in the 100 freestyle, checking in at 53.42, while Suzuka placed 28th out of 39 swimmers in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.45. The 400 freestyle relay team of Rieth, Suzuka, senior Becky Baker and sophomore Carly Marshall registered a 26th-place time of 3:41.45 to close out the meet for the Hawks.
