Brockport Teams Take Part in Walk to School Day
The College at Brockport Women’s Basketball team as well as members of the College’s Baseball team took part in the annual Walk to School Day Wednesday, October 3 joining students and parents in the annual effort to promote good health with a walk to school rather than taking the bus or driving.
Started in 1997, the National Walk to School Day expanded in 2012 to include a Bike to School option and still encourages good healthy habits to the school-aged children and their parents.
The members of the Women’s Basketball and Baseball teams walked with different groups of children and parents to school and provided encouragement as role models for good health.
“It was great to have the college athletes helping out,” said Staci Vergin, a parent of 10-year-old Kennedy who walked with members of the basketball team. “The athletes were great with the kids and made the event a lot more fun.”
There were more than 4,000 Walk to School events registered in 2011 in the 50 states and additional events around the world.
The participants in Brockport all received apples and other healthy treats to encourage even more healthy habits.
