Riggi, Goergen, and Ruegge Earn SUNYAC Women’s Ice Hockey Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SUNYAC picks Molly Riggi, Molly Goergen, and Kayson Ruegge as this week's Women's Ice Hockey Athlete, Goaltender, and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Riggi played a pivotal role in helping Plattsburgh sweep Canton over the weekend. The junior forward recorded four points, including two goals and two assists, a +5 plus-minus, and four shots across both wins. On Friday, Riggi scored twice, including an empty-net goal to seal the 3-0 victory. On Saturday, she assisted on two goals, contributing to a dominant 4-0 win.
Goergen had an outstanding weekend in goal for Cortland, making 46 saves on 47 shots for a .979 save percentage and 0.48 GAA. She earned her seventh shutout of the season in a 5-0 win over Potsdam on Saturday, making 25 saves. This followed a 21-save effort in a 1-1 tie against Potsdam on Friday, where she made five critical overtime saves to preserve the tie. Goergen's stellar play helped the Red Dragons secure a 1-0-1 record for the weekend.
Ruegge continued her strong form for Plattsburgh, contributing offensively in both of the Cardinal's wins over Canton. On Friday, she scored the game-winning goal, and on Saturday, she assisted on the game-winning goal. Ruegge finished the weekend with two points, a +2 plus-minus, and eight shots.
