Oneonta women's soccer ranked #25 to start season
Defending SUNYAC champion, SUNY Oneonta, will start the season in the No. 25 spot in the NSCAA Division III women's soccer preseason poll released this week. The Red Dragons return eight starters along with a veteran core of players, as they look to defend its conference title and return to the NCAA tournament for a 15th time.

"We are excited to start the season and are looking forward to defending our SUNYAC title," said Liz McGrail, who is entering her eighth season as head coach of the Red Dragons. "With a large veteran group we have high expectations, but understand the hard work that is ahead of us. Being ranked in the preseason poll is a nice tribute to last year's team. It's a new year and we are ready to face new challenges."

Oneonta finished 13-5-3 last fall while putting together an unbeaten 6-0-3 record in the SUNYAC. They defeated SUNY Geneseo in the conference championship game to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. In the tournament, the Red Dragons won its opening game against Farmingdale, 1-0, before falling to eventual national champion, William Smith 1-0 in the second round.

The women open its 2014 season on Friday, Aug. 29 vs. preseason No. 21 RIT at Nazareth College.
