Women's Soccer NCAA DIII Tournament Bracket
GENESEO, N.Y. - The SUNY Geneseo women's soccer team will play Frostburg in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this weekend at Johns Hopkins with exact dates and times still to be determined. The winner will advance to the second round and play the winner of Johns Hopkins and Farmingdale.
No. 23 Geneseo is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and its first since 2009. The 2009 squad played Endicott to a 1-1 draw in the first round and ultimately fell on penalty kicks, 6-5. The farthest the Knights have ever advanced in the tournament came when the 1994 team reached the semifinals.
Geneseo's record of 16-2-2 is its best mark since the 1993 squad went 18-2 en route to the NCAA Regionals and a final national ranking of No. 7.
Frostburgh carries a 13-4-5 overall record and is making its eighth tournament appearance in the last 14 years. The Bobcats captured their second Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship in the last three years with a 2-0 victory over Mary Washington, last Saturday. The two schools have met on just one previous occasion, a match the Knights won, 1-0, in 1999.Â
The Knights defeated Cortland 1-0 to win their sixth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship in program history this past Saturday. First-year forward Leah Greene scored with 59 seconds left in regulation after junior midfielder Stephanie Clookey sent a perfect pass to the right post where Greene out-leapt the Red Dragon's keeper and headed home the game-winning goal.
