ECAC announces Women's Soccer All-Stars
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2014 Division III Upstate Region Women's Soccer All-Star teams on Thursday. Geneseo led the way for SUNYAC with Leah Greene (Freshman, Forward) taking home the Rookie of the Year award and coach Nate Wiley was honored as the Coach of the Year.
Greene (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Catholic) led her Geneseo squad with 15 goals and 36 points in her first season. She also led all of SUNYAC in goals and points, while playing in all 22 games for Geneseo. Last month, she took home all SUNYAC First Team honors, as well as the SUNYAC's Rookie of the Year award. She scored at least one goal in 12 of Geneseo's final 14 games, including the game-winning goal with 59 seconds left in the SUNYAC Championship Game. The rookie's heroics lifted the Knights to a 1-0 victory over Cortland and a berth into the NCAA Tournament, while also earning the SUNYAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
In Wiley's ninth season as the head coach of the Knights, this is his first time earning the honor as the SUNYAC Coach of the Year. He became the first Geneseo coach to win this award since Aimee Canale in 2002. Wiley led the Knights to a 16-2-2 overall record. He directed Geneseo to the program's sixth SUNYAC Championship and a berth into the NCAA Tournament. The team's 16 wins this season were the most for the Knights since 1993.
Greene was also honored as a member of the ECAC Upstate Region First Team, along with her Geneseo teammate, Alexa Wandy (So., Defense) and Cortland's Mersadiz Hayes (So., Defense).
Representing the SUNAYC on the ECAC Women's Soccer Second Team, was Oswego's Bri Dolan (Sr., Defense), Georgia Traynor (Jr., Midfield), Geneseo's Meaghan Johnston (So., Midfield), Plattsburgh's Lindsey Bushey (Fr., Forward), Cortland's Kaitlyn Cook (Sr., Forward), and Brockport's Cayli Carmona (Sr., Forward).Â
