Three Named All-American by D3baseball.com
Cortland juniors John Adornetto and Ray Angelucci and Brockport sophomore Justin McCarthy have been selected as d3baseball.com All-Americans. Adornetto earned First Team honors, while Angelucci and McCarthy were named to the Third Team.
Adornetto is batting .362 with nine doubles, two triples and 27 RBI in 45 games this spring. He has drawn a team-best 32 walks and has a team-best .495 on-base percentage. He's also made only seven errors at shortstop in 189 total chances for a .963 fielding percentage.
Angelucci is currently 11-1 with a 1.28 ERA in 12 appearances. In 77 and a third innings he has allowed only 43 hits and 22 walks with 66 strikeouts. He has thrown four complete games including one solo shutout. Angelucci is only the third pitcher in Cortland school history to win at least 10 games in a season.
Cortland is 39-7-1 and has advanced to the NCAA Div. III World Series for the 11th time. The Red Dragons will face Kean University in the opening round on Friday, May 25, in Grand Chute, Wis.
McCarthy, Brockport's primary closer on the year, is the first Golden Eagle to be named All-American since 2004. The sophomore tied for second in the nation with 10 saves on the season. McCarthy posted a team-best 1.20 ERA and finished with a 2-2 record on the mound. McCarthy also held opponents to a .173 batting average in 30 innings pitched while appearing in a team-high 18 games.
