Trunfio and Leib Tabbed SUNYAC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC selects Cortland's Gianna Trunfio and Oneonta's Maura Leib as its Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
Trunfio scored two goals, including the game-winning goal, as the nationally eighth-ranked Red Dragons defeated nationally 19th-ranked New Paltz 5-1 to claim the SUNYAC regular season title and the top seed in the conference tournament. In the second quarter, Trunfio broke a 1-1 deadlock by taking a pass, spinning and firing a shot for the game winner. Early in the third quarter, she blasted a shot for Cortland's third goal to help secure the victory.
Leib finished with five saves and recorded a shutout as Oneonta secured a conference win in their 1-0 week and secured the third seed in the conference tournament. The junior goalkeeper picked up her third shutout of the season with five stops to help Oneonta defeat Oswego on the road in SUNYAC play, 3-0. Leib currently has a .748 save percentage on the season.
