O’Neil and Barikyan of Oneonta Earn SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Oneonta's Jamie O'Neil and Stephen Barikyan have been named this week's SUNYAC Men's Lacrosse Athletes of the Week for their standout performances in conference action.
O'Neil continued his dominant offensive play in Oneonta's 23-5 road win over Canton. The junior attackman recorded 6 goals and 3 assists for a total of 9 points. O'Neil also scooped up three ground balls and caused a turnover. His performance was crucial in helping the Red Dragons jump to an early lead, with 4 goals and 2 assists in the opening period. O'Neil currently leads the SUNYAC in points (64), assists (32), and ranks second in goals (32).
Barikyan set a pair of program records in Oneonta's win over Canton. The senior faceoff specialist won 25 of 28 faceoffs, finishing with an impressive .893 win percentage. In addition to his faceoff dominance, Barikyan collected a record 17 ground balls, helping to secure possession for the Red Dragons throughout the game. His outstanding play helped improve Oneonta's conference record to 2-0. After this week, Barikyan currently leads the SUNYAC in both faceoffs won (165-for-260) and ground balls collected (96), solidifying his place as one of the top faceoff specialists.
