SUNYAC announces athletes of the week for March 28 â?? April 3
BASEBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Paul Dondero
Dondero batted .583 (7-for-12) with eight runs scored, a walk, two doubles, four hit-by-pitches and a .706 on-base percentage during a 3-1 week for the Red Dragons. He opened the week by going 2-for-2 with two hit-by-pitches, four runs and three steals in a win over Cazenovia. He also was 2-for-4 in both games of a doubleheader sweep at Brockport.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Justin Stybel
New Paltz pitcher Justin Stybel allowed two runs off six hits, two walks and struck out six batters in 6 2/3 innings of work in the Hawks' 5-4 loss against No. 13 SUNY Oswego on Saturday. The freshman right-hander has seen action in seven games so far this season and is currently 1-0 on the rubber with two saves and owns a 1.77 earned-run average.
SOFTBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Melissa Mulvaney
Mulvaney had one of her best weeks at the plate, helping Oswego State produce a 4-2 record, including two conference wins. The junior went 7-for-16 (.438), knocking her first home run of her career in Friday's win over Brockport. Mulvaney also recorded nine RBI and scored four runs of her own. On the defensive side of things, the second bases had two leaping grabs that led to double plays.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Alexandrea Flint
Flint went 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 5-1 home wins versus Geneseo and Brockport. She allowed five hits and one run with one strikeout and no walks and unofficially threw only 54 pitches in seven innings versus Geneseo. Against Brockport, she gave up four hits and one run, fanned two and did not walk anyone.
MEN'S LACROSSE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Eric Soderquist
Soderquist posted a seven-point week as the Bears extended their winning streak to a school record seven games with two victories. Soderquist had a goal and an assist as Potsdam rallied for its first win over Clarkson in nine years. He then scored five goals as the Bears downed Oneonta 11-7 in their SUNYAC opener.
GOALIE OF THE WEEK - Pete Gropp
Gropp recorded his 12th and 13th career victories in a 2-0 week for the Bears. He made 15 saves as Potsdam rallied from a four-goal deficit to defeat Clarkson 11-9 on Wednesday. He then turned aside nine shots as Potsdam downed Oneonta 11-7 in its SUNYAC opener on Saturday. He totaled an 8.00 goals-against-average and a .619 save percentage.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Tara Monaghan
Monaghan helped lead the top-ranked Red Dragons (9-0, 1-0 SUNYAC) to a pair of wins last week, totaling 11 goals, seven ground balls and nine draw controls. In a 14-6 victory at William Smith on Monday, Monaghan scored three goals, won three draws and collected six ground balls. In a 19-9 win at Fredonia in the SUNYAC opener for both teams on Saturday, Monaghan matched her career high with eight goals, secured six draws and one ground balls. She currently leads the team with 42 points on a team-best 35 goals and seven assists, has collected a team-high 24 ground balls and ranks second with 27 draws.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jaclyn Beshlian
Beshlian helped the top-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team improve to 9-0 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC with a pair of wins last week. In a 14-6 victory at William Smith on Monday, Beshlian made six saves. She then stopped 13 shots in a 19-9 win at Fredonia on Saturday. For the week, she registered a 7.50 GAA with 19 saves and a .559 save percentage.

MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Storm Malone
Malone won the 110-meter hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 14.83 seconds at the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational. His performance currently ranks 11th nationally in Division III. Cortland finished first out of 31 schools in the final team standings.
MALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Mitch Couch
Couch set school and meet records in the hammer throw with his winning distance of 56.60 meters (185' 8") at the Ramapo College Roadrunner Invitational. He broke the previous school mark by more than 14 feet. Couch also won the shot put at 14.89 meters (48' 10.25") and was second in the discus at 47.82 meters (156' 11"). He currently ranks second nationally in Division III in the hammer throw and sixth in the discus. All three of his efforts are ECAC qualifiers. Couch's 28 points at the meet helped Cortland finish first out of 31 schools in the final team standings.
FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Jessica Craven
Jessica Craven tabbed three top four finishes at the Geneseo Early Invite this week including two first place finishes. The freshman took first in the shot put with a distance of 12.57-meters and first in the discus with 41.66-meters. Craven also took fourth in the hammer throw with 42.30-meters.
