SUNYAC selects basketball weekly awards for the week of Dec. 15-21
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected the men's and women's athlete of the week for the week ending December 21. The next SUNYAC Athlete of the Week accolades will be announced on January 5, 2015.
MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK –Mikey McElroy (JR) Â
Oneonta, Guard (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs)
McElroy had a pair of solid all-around games this past weekend at the Daytona Beach Shootout. He helped lead Oneonta to a 1-1 record averaging 21.5 points per game. He also shot better than 50 percent from the floor and went 6-for-7 from the charity stripe. He also gathered 10 boards and five steals.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Caysea Cohen (JR) Â
Oneonta, Guard (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville)
In a 1-1 weekend at the Daytona Beach Shootout, Cohen led Oneonta in scoring. She scored 28 points over the two games including 15 in a 56-39 win against Roanoke. She also went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
