SUNYAC men's and women's basketball title games set for Saturday
The 2015 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's and women's basketball champions will be crowned Saturday with both finals taking place at 4 p.m. For the men the title game will be a fight between #1 Plattsburgh and #3 Oswego in Plattsburgh's Memorial Hall, Plattsburgh and on the women's side it will be a faceoff between #1 Geneseo and #2 Cortland in Geneseo's Schrader Gym.

The Oswego men upset #2 Geneseo, 72-61 in the first semifinal game of the night Friday in Plattsburgh. In the second semifinal #1 Plattsburgh topped  #4 Brockport, 71-50.

Cortland defeated New Paltz, 57-48 in the first women's semifinal game Friday night in Geneseo. In the second game of the night top-seeded Geneseo beat #4 Oneonta, 62-49.

Men's Semifinal Game 1 - #3 Oswego 72, #2 Geneseo 61

Brian Sortino poured in 24 points and Kyle Covley added 18 to carry Oswego to a 72-61 victory over Geneseo Friday night.

The Lakers outscored the Knights 38-22 in the second half after trailing 39-34 at the break. Oswego shot 54.5% (12 for 22) from the floor in the second half, but it was the Lakers' lockdown defense that limited Geneseo to 8 of 24 field goal attempts (33.3%) in the second half.

Sortino scored his 24 points on 50% shooting, going 8 for 16 from the field. He also was 3 for 5 from beyond the arc and 5 for 6 from the line. Covley went 6 for 9 from the field and 4 for 6 from three-point land.

Walter Sampson, Rashawn Powell and Alex Rawa each scored nine points for Oswego, while Powell pulled down seven rebounds.

Geneseo was led by Gordon Lyons who had 17 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Andy Drescher contributed 14 points, while Devon Anderson had 10 off the bench.

Women's Semifinal Game 1 - #2 Cortland 57, #3 New Paltz 48

Cortland's  Brittney Dumas scored 18 of her game-high 24 points in the second half of the game to help lead the second-seeded Red Dragons past #3 New Paltz, 57-48. She finished 11-of-24 from the field, 8-of-14 after halftime, and hit 2-of-3 shots from the 3-point arc. Rae Frasier finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and a team-high three assists and Cassidy Chapko scored eight points, including six free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.

Shannan Walker led New Paltz (18-9) with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting from 3-point range. Courtney Irby scored nine points and led the Hawks with nine rebounds and Sydney Pinn scored eight points off the bench.

Cortland shot 31 percent in the first half, but hit 54 percent of its second-half shots and finished at 42 percent. Conversely, New Paltz made 37 percent of its field goals in the first 20 minutes but was held to 6-of-28 shooting (21 percent) after halftime and finished at 29 percent.

Men's Semifinal Game 2 - #1 Plattsburgh 71, #4 Brockport 50

Jordan Moody lead top-seeded Plattsburgh past #4 Brockport, 71-50, with 19 points while Kyle Richardson had a team high seven rebounds and added 11 points. The team shot 36.4 percent from the field.

Hamed Shameldin scored 16 points for Brockport and Patrick Modzelewski added 12 points. Brockport shot 29.8 percent from the field.

Women's Semifinal Game 2 - #1 Geneseo 62, #4 Oneonta 49

Shannon McGinnis totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season to lead the top-seeded Knights over #4 Oneonta, 62-49.

Geneseo's Allison McKenna had 12 points and 11 rebounds while junior guard Dana Cohan added 10 points in the victory.

Caysea Cohen lead Oneonta with nine points while Sarah Longto had a team high eight rebounds. Jillian Davis added eight points.

Geneseo shot 47.2 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from the line. Oneonta was 32.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the arc.
