Cortland Basketball vs. Cancer Night Set for Friday, Feb. 13
The annual SUNY Cortland Basketball vs. Cancer Night, an event to raise money for the American Cancer Society, will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, when the Red Dragons' men's and women's basketball teams host SUNY Plattsburgh in SUNYAC action. The doubleheader at Corey Gymnasium begins with the men's game at 5:30 p.m., followed by the women's game at 7:30 p.m.
Raffles will be conducted during both games, with the proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society. The event is being organized by Cortland men's basketball coach Tom Spanbauer and women's basketball coach Jeannette Mosher.
The event is one of many cancer research fundraising programs held by college basketball teams nationwide in conjunction with the "Coaches vs. Cancer" program. "Coaches vs. Cancer" is an alliance that was formed by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the American Cancer Society in October 1993. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) endorsed the program in the fall of 1995. The program is dedicated to fighting cancer through increased support by basketball fans for research, patient services and prevention education.
