SUNYAC announces women's basketball annual honors
CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to recognize and award the 2015 women's basketball Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and the All-Conference teams. All awards were voted on by the SUNYAC women's basketball conference coaches.

Shannon McGinnis (Walworth, N.Y./Gananda High School) from Geneseo was awarded Player of the Year. Alisha Jacobs (Hogansburg, NY/SPIRE Institute) from Oswego was named Rookie of the Year, and SUNY Geneseo's Scott Hemer was voted Coach of the Year.

Geneseo's Shannon McGinnis was named the 2015 Player of the Year. Shannon is not only one of the top players in the SUNYAC, but in Geneseo school history, finishing as the program's all-time leader in rebounds as well as third in scoring. This season for her 21-4 team, she was the go-to player late in games and many times was asked to guard the opponent's top player. Shannon leads the conference in double-doubles as well as rebounds and is ranked near the top as follows: seventh in scoring at 14.2 points per game, fifth in field goal percentage, fifth in free throw percentage. She's also 12th in minutes played, 18th in assists, 22nd in steals and 25th in three point field goals per game. This balance on the top regular season team places her among the elite players in our conference. McGinnis was recognized four times as the SUNYAC Player of the Week awards this season.

Alisha Jacobs from Oswego was awarded the 2015 Rookie of the Year. Alisha started all but one conference game this season (due to senior night). Over all 25 games she finished 11th scoring averaging 13 points per game, third in three point percentage (34), third in three points made (2.1), third in free-throw percentage (77.8), and fifth in steals (1.8).

Geneseo's head coach Scott Hemer was named Coach of the Year this season as he led the Knights to becoming the 2015 Conference Champions. He has led the Knights to the SUNYAC Championship game four times in the last five years winning the title last in 2011. This year the Knights had a conference record of 17-1 and are on a 17 game winning streak. Geneseo went into the SUNYAC Championship games as the top seed and now has a chance at becoming the National Champions as they host the first round of the NCAA DIII Tournament. This is Scott Hemer's eighth season as the Head Coach for the Geneseo Knights and his second time being honored as the SUNYAC Coach of the Year (2010-11). ?
