Cortland Captures 2025 SUNYAC Women's Basketball Title
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Top-seeded Cortland won the 2025 SUNYAC women's basketball championship after defeating No. 2 New Paltz, 68-49, Saturday at Cortland. This is the Red Dragons ninth overall conference crown. With the win Cortland earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Jackie Funk was named the Tournament MVP after totaling 41 points and eight rebounds in two playoff wins for the Red Dragons.
Elite 20
An award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
This year there is a three-way tie for the Women's Basketball Elite 20 award. Cortland's Lily Woodis and Canton's Abigail Rice and Sadey Sprabary are being honored. Woodis is a junior early childhood education major. Rice is a sophomore majoring in healthcare administration and Sprabary is s sophomore health and fitness promotion major.
